We decline many matters at intake because the subject already suspects something is wrong. Discretion begins with the client, before the first phone call.
Before you call
- Use a device the subject does not have access to.
- Avoid searching investigation-related terms on shared devices or accounts.
- Do not discuss the matter with mutual friends or family who may be questioned later.
- Hold off on confronting the subject, confrontation removes options.
During the engagement
- Communicate with your case handler through the agreed channel only.
- Maintain your normal routines as far as possible.
- Avoid changes (locks, accounts, schedules) until the case handler advises.
After the engagement
Decisions made on the back of a completed investigation are best taken with legal advice in parallel. The evidence is one input, the strategy around it is what determines the outcome.
